Speed Racer

Synopsis - Born to race cars, Speed Racer is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized - the legendary Rex Racer, whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill. Speed is loyal to the family racing business, led by his father, Pops Racer, the designer of Speed's thundering Mach 5. When Speed turns down a lucrative and tempting offer from Royalton Industries, he not only infuriates the company's maniacal owner but uncovers a terrible secret - some of the biggest races are being fixed by a handful of ruthless moguls who manipulate the top drivers to boost profits. If Speed won't drive for Royalton, Royalton will see to it that the Mach 5 never crosses another finish line. The only way for Speed to save his family's business and the sport he loves is to beat Royalton at his own game. With the support of his family and his loyal girlfriend, Trixie, Speed teams with his one-time rival - the mysterious Racer X - to win the race that had taken his brother's life: the death-defying, cross-country rally known as The Crucible.

Review - I've not been doing any movie reviews recently because there hasn't been anything decent on the big screens until I saw the trailer for Speed Racer and guess who are the directors behind the movie, The Wachowski Brothers. That alone is enough to reassure me that this movie isn't going to be a flop but a classic in the making. Its not easy to do remakes of a cartoon using real life characters but this remake definitely played out well with all the CGI effects. As a matter of fact, this movie would have faded without the CGI and retro psychedelic graphics. The characters were also well chosen except for the lead character who was quite poor in depicting Speed Racer. This is one colourful roller coaster ride and if you thought The Fast and The Furious and Initial D were top notch racing movies, you have to watch this movie to squash that notion. One cool thing about this movie was that it made me want to play Mario Kart again haha.

Well I guess the movie does not appeal to the everyone... probably due to too much CGI but its still one of a kind and Wachowski Brothers' classic.

The Wachowski bros certainly put a lot of effort into making Speed Racer... but the movie overall looked and felt like a cross between anime, a kaleidoscope, that Flintstones movie, a video game and the Dukes of Hazard
