The Golden Compass

Synopsis: 12-year-old Lyra is an orphan who lives in a parallel world, where human souls take the form of animal companions called daemons. When her best friend disappears, Lyra promises to find him. Her uncle, Lord Asriel, doesn't want her to go, but the mysterious Mrs. Coulter offers to bring Lyra along for the adventure of a lifetime. One thing Lyra packs for the trip: the alethiometer -- a mysterious compass that many people are violently determined to possess. When the compass reveals to Lyra the truth about her friend's kidnapping and the evil force behind it, it's up to her to stop the war that threatens her world.

Review: Spectacular movie with very good visual effects. Each person has a demon accompanying him in this world, sounds a bit like Final Fantasy (where you have a guardian to call upon). The cast is stellar too but could not make up for the poor plot, with no proper direction. The costumes used were also pretty chic with almost a mixture of everything mixed into this movie. You would also love the different creatures that follows each character and how can you not love him, Iorek Byrnison - The Polar Bear. Awesome bear, haha he was there to save the movie from going down. The way the movie was shown, there seem to be a sequel and much more so more polar bear fighting to be anticipated. If you like fantasy genre movie, guess this is one that should be in your watchlist.
