As I look forward to 4th November, there are many thoughts that run through my mind on what career path I would like to start on. Well, today there was a chance for me to confirm that being a regular army personnel is definitely not one of my ideal career paths. Two weeks ago, I received news that I would be attending some recruitment seminar today for the role of a supply supervisor which literally means someone who is in charge of dealing with the accounting of stores and whatever you have in the Battalion or Company. The seminar didn't appeal to me at all since I'm not even liking what I'm doing now 24/7 in the army. Although the speakers shared their experiences through their illustrious career which consists of many overseas operations, they failed to mention the difficulties and the ungratefulness you would encounter as a role of a supply supervisor. Yes you can say that you are paid heavily to deal with some stress matters but is it worth it to wear uniform 24/7 and conform to regimentals 24/7? A career with plenty of opportunities to lead but limited space for your freedom of expression. You've got to stick to a certain haircut and hair colour for at least 10 plus years with the inevitable arrows of tasks to accomplish in order to prove your capability and to rise quickly in rank. In the army, rank means more authority, more responsibilities and more $. Many people would do anything to make sure they get promoted asap regardless of friendship and values. Hence, I feel that the army despite it being the defense pillar of a nation, it still has its own share of dirty linen. Furthermore, I'm not the kind who likes to be stuck in a store checking my stores the whole day or someone who likes to sit in front of a computer the entire day looking through the Enterprise System. But I must admit that I love to travel around the world to widen my horizon but definitely not in army uniforms and all. I would rather check out design galleries in Europe in my comfortable civilian clothing and use my computer to do design works. If you want to compare, the $ I might get as a designer could be lesser but at least I would be happier doing design and thinking of what to add onto a product to make it even more exclusive. To end it, army is just not my cup of tea unless I was an officer, maybe things would be different. The scholarships could be helpful and the prospects would be better. But as a WOSPEC, signing on is definitely a desperate move to move up the financial ladder.

ORD - After 1 year 10 months of wearing green, doing adhoc stuff, keeping my hair short and black, its finally time that something has been pasted on the back of my 11B. Yup my service status is now NSman and I ain't complaining. No more taking Bus number 169 or 856 to Sembawang, no more carrying oil drums (if you think I'm fit maybe this is the reason), no more checking of toolboxes (its not as easy as how I type it out), no more calling up contractors (dumb ass job), no more stocktaking, no more going to Jurong for some meaningless seminars, no more waiting for the stupid bus to come after work, no more free medical service, no more acting like a fool in front of superiors... I'm done for the freaking army, its time for some civilian lifestyle that I've been craving for since I entered my Unit. Happy? Haha I guess that word has no impact on how I really feel. Felt more like a prisoned fella finally released after serving his long sentence. Now I'm looking forward to catching up with my time wasted in the army, getting a job and University. Army... a past, been there done that. Unforgettable but unnecessary. Pink I.C. it has been a while...
