Starck's Design for Life

Design for Life - So its finally on. Starck's reality show for product designers. Interestingly its targeted at British designers for their lack of relevant design style which I think Tom Dixon would disagree. Not sure whether he should be the right person judging and criticising because after all the contestants are going to be like his children, all trying to think like him. Fortunately, his comments are extremely thought provoking and sharp and I do agree with many of the things he has mentioned about consumerism and the responsibility of a designer. Felt almost like my studio life was streaming right infront of me haha. Interesting.

Parrot "Zikmu" Speakers by Philippe Starck

Zikmu - New set of speakers designed by The French Designer which incorporates an iPod/iPhone dock together with WiFi and Bluetooth. Zikmu uses NXT flat panel technology rather than old school speaker cones so as to create the full 360 degree sound which is something Starck is trying to create by bringing fragrance and sound closer together. Masters Chair by Philippe Starck and Eugeni Quitlet for Kartell

Masters - "We weren't born just today. There have been masters before us" said Philippe Starck. What he said was really true, before Starck became internationally recognised for his designs, there were masters of design before him who did chairs that were great masterpieces. The lines of three great masterpieces were put together in a new chair for a new project to reflect upon a new society with Eugeni Quitlet. Not a easy design I would say to reinterpret a classic design but nonetheless it was very unique and I guess only Starck could pull of something like that. Click here for more info.

Out/In High Backrest Armchair by Philippe Starck and Eugeni Quitlet for Driade

Out/In - Traditional armchair reinterpreted by expanding the shapes and dimensions. The screen looking backrest surrounds us and can hide us from others which is like a cocoon or a real intimate space just like a throne. The oversized seat allows you to sit down and coil up in many different positions. Made out of polypropylene and available in matte white or black and luxurious lacquered silver version. This is one interesting armchair by breaking the notion of an armchair and since its from Starck, you got to check out the legs of the chair. Killer legs there. Click here to get yours.

Philippe Starck's School of Design

Starck - Don't tell me you do not know him because if you don't then I do not know why are you checking out my blog. Guess like its time for him to go commercial via the media with this latest tv show "Philippe Starck's School of Design". A chance for someone to work with Starck and his team in Paris for a period of several months is really tempting and no formal design training is necessary. Chance of a lifetime? Probably but at the moment I'm still more interested in my basic work in Industrial Design and what's more I'm not rich now to fly there to work with him. For those interested, click here.
