Raymond Loewy/ Dieter Rams - "There are two kinds of industrial designers," writes Deyan Sudjic of Metropolis. One that uses media to boost his image as a designer as well as building his career based on his personality, that is Raymond Loewy. There are many other designers now who follow Loewy's footsteps in terms of their design approach for example Karim Rashid and Philippe Starck. The other type of designer is personified by Dieter Rams, whose discipline is a kind of moral crusade and believes in the potential of industrial production. Those who follow Rams' approach are people like Jasper Morrison and Jonathan Ive. Very interesting topic for aspiring designers like me for my design approach. Glamour against Rationality. So for all those aspiring designers and design students out there, are you a Loewy or a Rams? Click here for the full article.
