Lockheed Lounge - The aluminium Lockheed Lounge by Marc Newson used in Madonna's video "Rain"was sold for £1.1 million today in London at Phillips de Pury & Co. It is the most expensive furniture or design art ever sold. Made in 1985 when Marc Newson was still 23 and made from a fibreglass core and riveted sheet aluminum, the Lockheed Lounge was entirely hand-crafted by Marc Newson. The form was about aerodynamic fluidity and seamlessness. A very good example of contemporary design with the development in space technology and streamlined forms. Glad to see such design pushing the boundaries even during the economy downturn. Check out the video below with the Lockheed Lounge inside and a little trivia info: the video went on to receive the 1993 MTV Video Music Awards that year for Best Art Direction.
